In the 1960s, we met many demands from the scientists for development simple, useful and economical equipments to advance biological and biochemical researches. ATTO Corporation was established as a biochemical equipments manufacturer in 1964. In these forty years, we have an effort to develop and improve our ATTO brand products by a large investment in research, development, cooperating with leading scientists in biochemical and biological fields.

Since our establishment, we have continued to develop, manufacture, and provide many biological and analytical products, such as peristaltic pumps, chromatograph equipments and electrophoresis apparatus.

Over the last decade we have also developed and provided bioluminescent devices and analyzers as a useful research tool especially in gene expression.

Name of ATTO Corporation comes from "atto", an incredibly small unit equal to 1 x 10-18, or one-quintillionth. Modern scientists and technologist now hope to investigate in detail and deeply into exploratory research on the "atto" scale. This is a field ATTO is ready to enter.

In recent years, the Japanese government has begun to promote joint research between universities and enterprises. However, ATTO has been engaged in collaboration with universities, and has already achieved several fruitful results to date. One of the results of collaboration won an award from the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology in 2001.

Proteome Analysis by Gel Electrophoresis

Gel electrophoresis is the most popular and representative tool for the analysis of protein and DNA. ATTO provides apparatus for polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis, agarose gel electrophoresis, and 2-dimensional electrophoresis.
ATTO products based on long-fostered knowledge and technologies are recognized as the top-performing instruments in the industry. We design them with elegant, user-friendly interface and provide them with cost-effective prices. Our clients can select from a robust assortment of products tailor-designed for the various electrophoresis processes.

Research Support in the Post-Genome Era

In the post-genome era, the researchers are engaging in functional and structural analyses of protein using various genome database. Clinical researchers need tools to help them search for genes associated with target diseases, to elucidate how genes are expressed and how they produce proteins, and to identify the functions of proteins inside the human body.
ATTO provides analytical devices, technologies and reagents to support researchers in these endeavors.

Separation/Analysis of Biopolymer by Chromatography

Chromatography is another typical separation / Analysis method for studies of biopolymer. ATTO developed its first thin layer chromatography system in 1964. Nine years later, we produced high-performance liquid chromatographs. Since then, ATTO has continued to provide with the best instruments for column chromatography.
Long-fostered technologies have been incorporated into these exceptional products. A prime example of our long history and popularity in Japan is the Perista® Pump, a trademark-registered product whose name is now synonymous with the peristaltic pump in general.

Bio/Chemical Luminescence Measurement

Bioluminescence is now a widely used technique for the measurement of biological signals in extremely small quantities. In the promoter assay, the luminescent protein of the gene from this protein radiates a yellow color when the luminescent substrate “luciferin” and ATP are added.
The food sanitation supervisors apply bioluminescence to the measurement of the ATP included in microorganisms and cells. This technique is now adopted as a tool to inspect food for contaminating microorganisms under the Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) regulations for food hygiene control.
Chemical luminescence, or chemiluminescence is applied to analyses detected the signal in very small-quantities. For example, enzyme immnoassays for high-sensitivity, for the measurement of DNA probes, active oxygen (the cause of lifestyle-related diseases), and for the assessment of antioxidant action for the prevention diseases. ATTO provides instruments and reagents for bio/chemical luminescence measurement.
